The Dag Rose - Limited Edition Blown Glass Bowl

The Dag Rose - Limited Edition Blown Glass Bowl

The ‘Dag’ Rose Our third design of 2017 is a soft pink bowl with a warm orange lip wrap. It’s been a good year for all roses. Rosa Canina heralds the arrival of high summer with a generous show of beautiful, delicate pink flowers with sunshine orange stamens. This wildflower is the origin of the stylised rose of medieval heraldry and in folklore is said to symbolise both pleasure and pain. It’s those thorns: the ‘daggers’ from which the ‘dag’ rose took its name, and over time has become more commonly known as the ‘dog’ rose. When we’re out walking in Rosedale I particularly miss this flower and the obvious passing of summer as we move through the year. The flowers are now setting as rose hips. We hope this bowl is a gentle reminder of the warmth, light and bounty of summer.

Join our email list and receive new of the limited edition launches. Our new design will be launched later this week. We design and make four new limited editions each year of the wild flowers we find growing in and around our studio. Our studio is in the middle of the North York Moors, a stunning, rich, diverse and ever changing landscape. A wide variety of colourful wild flowers have been returning to the grass verges in the National Park since cutting the summer grasses ceased. The wild flowers have been spreading slowly through the valley bottoms.

We are patiently waiting for the Lilly of the Valley to flower. Our next design to launch on 21st June, celebrates this beautiful, scented flower as part of the ongoing series of limited edition bowls. The roadside verges within the North York Moors National Park are no longer cut back, creating the conditions for the return of many wild flowers. These small 'wildlife corridors' are a reminder of nature’s bounty, beauty and strength.
Crocus Limited Edition Bowl

The Crocus flower is all about joy and cheerfulness. Regardless of the flowers folklore and history, its annual show is always a joy to behold, bringing the landscape alive with intense colour.
