The Hawthorn Bowl
Our fourth seasonal design celebrates the abundant berries of the Hawthorn.
The deep red colour, hums in the hedgerows as the Hawthorn, laden with ripe Haw’s, are now bare of leaves.
Birds love Hawthorn; its dense cover offers protection and food for blackbirds, thrushes and fieldfares among others.
The flowers and leaves have many uses as do the berries for hedgerow jellies, wines and herbal medicine, which includes treating heart problems and are imbued throughout with Faery magic.
The colour of the glass used in making this bowl is rare and we have waited many years, testing various melts, to find a melt that gives a consistently warmer, deeper red, reminiscent of a tree laden with Haw.
This bowl is a deep transparent red with a transparent red lip wrap.
Made to order, hand blown, hand engraved glass, signed, dated and numbered.
All orders will be with you in good time for this Christmas.

Meadow Cranesbill
Our third limited edition of 2021. Launching this week.
The individual flowers are delicate and short lived, but massed in the verges they make a sea of continuous blue.
Part of the Geranium family, folklore states the flower has many uses including an effective counter to love spells, and is noted for her ability to attract happiness and prosperity.
As children we knew it as the Thunder Flower, picked it was sure to thunder and pour with rain.
A high summer bloom, as we head into autumn their seeds are now set and we hope this new design brings a beautiful blue note to your home for many years to come.
An opaque blue bowl with a transparent blue lip wrap.
Made to order, hand blown, hand engraved glass, signed, dated and numbered.

Maintenance Time
Our furnace is now ramping down in temperature for annual summer maintenance.
We bring her down in temperature slowly and when the time comes back up again very slowly to ensure all the ceramics in there do not suffer a thermal shock. Thermal chock and a cracked crucible is a glassmakers nightmare and we do all we can to avoid the situation.
We plan to fire her back up again early September and begin blowing glass over the winter months... shorts all year round in here.
In the mean time, the studio is open and welcoming visitors and we will be round and about working with the glass in other ways. When you visit you may also meet Peter in the gallery who is helping us out.
Open as usual Monday - Saturday 10am - 4pm
Sunday afternoons 2-4pm

The Apple Blossom Bowl
The extended cold snap and late spring held back the growth of our apple trees this year. But two weeks ago, the ‘Howgate Wonder’ burst into colour, and work began to capture the essence of the pale pink blossom.
In time, we look forward to harvesting a healthy crop of apples from the orchard opposite the glassworks.
Like many flowers the apple blossom has a rich history, high in antioxidants, producing a sweet tea that offers a clear complexion, better digestion, and stress relief. And in some cultures, the blossoms signify wisdom, joy, fertility and youthfulness.
Every year, the blossoms arrival is a sign of hope and of wonderful things to come.
Made in two sizes, this bowl is a transparent pale pink glass with a pink lip wrap.
Made to order, hand blown, hand engraved glass, signed dated and numbered.
