Ling Heather - New Limited Edition Bowl
Each summer, the North York Moors are transformed as the ling heather comes into bloom, cloaking the landscape in its unmistakable purple glow.
This most widespread of heathers bears countless tiny flowers—so delicate they are barely visible alone, yet together they create the vast, sweeping carpet that defines the moors in August and September.
More than a fleeting display of beauty, heather sustains life on the moor: its flowers feed bees and pollinators, while its woody stems shelter ground-nesting birds such as lapwings, curlews, golden plover and ring ouzel.
For centuries, people too have turned to it—for thatch, fuel, brewing, medicine—and it has long been cherished as a token of good luck, carried by travellers and brides alike.
Above all, the heather is a symbol of endurance. Through fire, frost, and the fiercest northern weather, it survives, returning each year in a brief but brilliant flowering that colours the moors with their truest essence.
Our handmade limited-edition glass bowl celebrates this miracle of contrasts: the small and the vast, the fragile and the enduring, the fleeting and the timeless.
Just as the ling heather unites thousands of tiny blossoms into a landscape-defining spectacle, so too does each detail of this piece come together in harmony—capturing the spirit of the moors in glass.
Our third Limited edition of 2025 is available to order online from 6pm on September 25th
