Hellebore Bowl
The 'winter rose' is a member of the buttercup family. This year our studio garden has given us a wonderful show of hellebore, with a bright display of the glorious crowns of these elegant flowers. At a time when so few plants are daring to shine, hellebore provides a reliable source of joy as a prelude to spring.
For millennia our ancestors crafted cures for madness and depression using hellebore, though it also gained notoriety as a poison, being implicated in the assassination of Alexander the Great.
Combining an evergreen foliage with a myriad of colours atop a tall stem, this brave circle of beautiful flowers is a welcome sight in the warm March sunshine.
